Fall Frenzy
Are you grabbing the last warm days to finish up the harvest, outdoor business, and fall festivals? Are kids and parents running their legs off to various forms of extra-curricular hyperstimulation?
We feel your Frenzy.
Who has time to scroll all of the SubStacks when there’s so much going on?
Consequently, weedom will be going on a little vacation as we finish out the fall. For the next month our posts will be shorter, perhaps just enough that you know there’s still a pulse. You can also click on Chat to see what’s up. Pictures will be dropped there regularly.
SubStack provides for us to add to the website, chat and notes without bothering your email. Therefore we recommend and hope that you visit the site when the spirit moves you. The archive remains fully open to all, and lots of newer subscribers haven’t seen the oldest articles.
Closeup pics are particularly in mind to present outside of the weekly newsletters. The camera with a macro lens, donated by a generous benefactor, is calling us. Podcast equipment beckons. There is much technology to learn in order to fully convey the world of weedom to our loyal readers.
After the dry spring and summer, a couple inches of rain finally fell at weedom this month, causing grass to green up a little, and some weeds to reappear. In the woods, things remain too dry for the mushrooms, though they have popped up in the pastures. Despite the continuance of warm weather, bugs are sparse except for the Asian beetles.
The multiflora rose-weeds and wild roses are utterly naked now, except for those little orangy red fruits, a.k.a. rose hips. Look for thorns on the branches. (That way you won’t accidentally pick honeysuckle berries. ) Miniature versions of weeds have popped back up. Some which are normally knee high bushes exist only as single short stems.
If we get some more rain, the root digging will start. Don’t forget to look for chicory, burdock, dandelion, dipsacus, mallows, elecampane, valerian, mullein, echinacea or whatever other weeds have roots that you can use. You might not need them this year, but it’s good to have awareness of their location and habits.
Many of you will see some of the spring edibles returning in the fall. Tiny little chickweed sprouts are showing up here, as well as the dandelions.
During the weedom Fall “vacation” some herbal compounding and soap making has to be done for the holiday season markets. We’ll try to shoot some pics so you can see the fun.
Thank you for hanging out at weedom. More great weeds, nerd power, inspiration, and useful stuff will be coming your way.
Wishing you a blessed and beautiful Fall season!
