In Colorado, we have the purple flowering one, as a ditch weed.

When I was last in central Europe, I found info it being recommended for gout.

Which part(s) of the plant were they using?

Unfortunately, I can't find my notes, and I have not seen it mentioned for gout in the English herbals I have access to. Will keep looking. There was a remarkable herbalist and healer in Moravia in days gone by, and it was his books I was studying. I can find it again.

Now that I think of it, I think it was the root.

These CABI guys (Commonwealth Abricultural Bureaux International) say that Australia got a purposeful gift sometime around 1893. It might pop up where there are 4 actual seasons and plenty of rain fall. We don't see it in zone 6 USA in such large amounts when they mow the roadsides a lot. A possible reason that we saw so much along highways in 2021 is the effect of COVID policies on labor. https://www.cabidigitallibrary.org/doi/10.1079/cabicompendium.119605

Yes, it's here but not too common. 644 recorded sightings on ATLAS:
