I'm grateful to fund your Substack. Thank you for this piece on Mullein. It's one of my favorite herbs. I have introduced it to my backyard as I transform what was just bare grass into a pollinator friendly, food producing oasis. I will say that in the fire zones on the West Coast of the US, mullein has become well-known as a summer lung protectant.
To improve contrast photography (even on an iPhone or similar), carry an A4 piece of black card in your pack. Slip it behind the item you want to contrast and photo away.
We have 2 surprise mullein plants in the garden, both in flower this year. Such an amazing plant! And great timing for respiratory support, with the smoky skies.
Good idea. Background helps, and portrait mode and various other games with natural light. Sometimes I think the focus struggles when I switch to 2x (optical zoom), and it affects depth of field too. One reason I feature phone photos is that it might get more people outside to do the same thing. Never get tired of bug, bee and butterfly pics. Another reason is that so many photos-ops happen spontaneously when I'm outside, doing farm and garden stuff.

It’s interesting how herbs seem show up right when you need them. Mullein has been more plentiful here for the last 3 years.
